Riza Hawkeye Barbie Doll

A doll made for my friend Zanne as a Christmas present. She saw that I had done a doll for Ardruna of one of her original characters, and asked for a Riza doll.

The base was a Barbie doll -- I can't find which one, but she was selected for her bangs and the fact she came with (lilac Western) boots.

She got a brief visit with the nail polish remover to take off her glittery eye shadow and lipstick, and got her lips repainted and her eyes changed to brown. Her boots were turned from heals to flats by some putty, and were painted with black model paint. Her hairstyle was easy enough to do with a clip and a couple of bobby pins.

Her clothing was made based loosely on a Simplicity pattern. The pants are a bit big around the waist -- Mattel has been changing Barbie around (or else I just can't sew). The butt-cape* is attached to the pants, but the belt is removable. The jacket also comes off and should have been lined. Everything is closed by velcro -- the pants and shirt in the back, and the jacket in the front, though the jacket has fake seed-bead buttons.

I learned a lot by making this. Mostly that I should work with bigger dolls -- Barbie is a hard size to sew for, and her shirt is decidedly too bulky for her size.

Now I'm picturing an Amestrian Military Barbie.

* Does it have a name? If it wasn't for pictures, I'd have assumed it was attached to the jacket.
