OSI2012 Round One: Sailor Cassini Pin-Up

Submitted for #OtakuSenshiIdols, Round One. The Theme was Pin Up.

OSI Write Up: Sailor Cassini
Qualifying Round Entry
Likes: Science! She also likes cold weather, sweets (in her civilian disguise, she is human, so can actually eat them), and cats. She also learned how to swim and discovered she enjoys that.
Dislikes: Heat, idleness (she has trouble relaxing), bright light (she's usually in sunglasses when outside as a civilian), small children.
Skills: She's very organized and calm under fire. She's not the team heavy hitter, nor the team leader, but she is good at being solidly there for her team when it counts, and not getting spooked easily.
Has Trouble With: Team dynamics: she has a bit of trouble working with the other senshi in her group, and is the most likely to strike off on her own. She also is the most likely to make unintentionally hilarious mistakes while trying to pass as human, as she's a bit of a know-it-all so doesn't know when to listen to advice.
Dreams: Cassini doesn't show it, but she'd like to see more of Earth and experience more as a human as she develops an identity other than the spirit of a space probe. That and, while her expected lifetime (20 years) is long for a space probe, it's short for a human, so she's starting to dream of somehow having a human life separate from her origin. (Yes, Pinocchio wants to be a real girl; cliche'd, but true.) She'd like to be a famous photographer.

I wanted to do something a bit older school, and I do love some of the limited palette block-print things often used for political posters. (The famous recent example is Obama's HOPE poster used in 2008 and sparking parodies everywhere.) That and I have a love for cheesy space opera, so I wanted to do a sexy Sailor Cassini with a ray-gun. Insert joke about Americans and guns.

I really need to find a compromise between my two favorite cel-shading techniques. Using a Photoshop brush doesn't leave as sharp of lines, but I get the smoothest curves and best tablet response that way.

I did remove Cassini's visor and humanized her face a bit. I did keep her robotic joints, and used an Obitsu doll body I have as a ref. That and took a reference picture of myself doing the pose. (Not sure how helpful it was; I have the wrong build.)
